WVIR-TV NBC29 Launches High Definition Local News on April 19

Charlottesville, VA – April 18, 2008 – WVIR-TV today announced that, effective Saturday, April 19, at 6 p.m., NBC29 News is available in high definition. This is the Charlottesville station’s first live, locally-produced, HD broadcast, and is the result of more than five years of planning and construction and an expenditure of more than 3 million dollars.

In announcing NBC29 News in HD, General Manager Harold Wright said, “All of
us at WVIR-TV are proud to be the first station in Central Virginia and the Central Shenandoah Valley to broadcast local news in high definition. We also believe WVIR-TV is the first station in the state to convert its entire broadcast plant to a state-of-the-art digital operation in anticipation of the end of analog broadcasting.”

WVIR-TV employs more than 100 people who produce more than 30 hours of
local news each week. For national news the station is an affiliate of both the
NBC and CNN television networks. In addition to its main newsroom in
Charlottesville, the station operates news bureaus in Waynesboro and at the
state capitol in Richmond.

WVIR-TV serves 11 counties in Central Virginia and the Central Shenandoah
Valley. The station is owned by Virginia Broadcasting Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Waterman Broadcasting Company which operates two other television stations, WBBH and WZVN, in Fort Myers, Florida.
