Meals tax doesn’t “stack”
If the proposed new Rockingham County meals tax is approved by voters in November, Bridgewater restaurants’ tax would remain the same. Local governments that already collect a meals tax will continue to collect at the same rate. In our immediate area, the most direct effect is that Mt. Crawford restaurants would begin to collect a meals tax. (Currently they are exempt, in that Mt. Crawford does not have a meals tax.) Here’s a link to some questions and answers about the meals tax.
